Feb 16 - March 20

Well I must apologize for the lack luster up dating of this blog. Actually, there isn't much to write home about. The weather has been GREAT, good socializing and generally all things are good.
We ended our stay at Stuart on March 11 and have been at Vero Beach since then on a mooring ball.
Our plan is to move on Sunday March 27.
Will try to keep up this blog.

Jan 19 - 29, 2011

We are in Sunset Bay Marina, Stuart, FL.
We have been busy socializing, shopping and more socializing.Finding several people we met in the past years.
The county bus can get you north or south. You can get to Sam's, Walmart, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes etc. We have been walking and riding bikes. Three or four miles each way isn't too long, anymore.
Last night, Friday, the local marine broker treated everyone to a pig roast with beer, wine and live music. It was great!
Today, Saturday, we are going to a seafood festival. Many cruisers are leaving this weekend to stage for the crossing to Bahamas.
Will try to update blog more often.

Jan 17 - 18

Setteled in to dock life and got the bus sehdules.
Went to Lola's for fish tacos. The BEST anywhere !!!
Tuesday is BYOB and a snack to share. Met more people old and new.
Not happy with the hi pressure pump which was rebuilt afew months ago, so, I removed it and sent it back to rebuild it again. Since we will be at Stuart for several weeks, it should be a good time to fix it.
Still doing small projects around the boat. Good hardware store within walking distance and on the way is good ICE CREAM stores.
Wednesday was the first time we need AC in the winter for the past 3 years, about 84degrees, but we will take it.

Jan 16, 2011

Left Vero for Sunset Bay Marina in Stuart. Nice ride.
We were pleasantly surprised that our dock was "A" Dock. Quieter and more comfortable that any other in the marina. Only about 300 feet to the club house. That is close at this marina. Last year we would walk about 1/4 mile to get to the club house. This marina has the best Captain's lounge. We could watch football on a wide screen. Should be great for the playoffs and Superbowl Sunday.
Had a get together on Sunday night and found many of the people had come back from last year.

Jan. 11 - 15, 2011

The hi-lite of the week was meeting a couple, Gail & John, from Washington State. He built their boat which is a 46 foot trawler named "Sirens Call" and built by "Wungh Hungh Lo". The "manufacturer" started out as a joke but they need it for Panama and it does sound like a Twain manufacturer. It took him 5 years but it is one of the best constructed and finished boats we have ever been on. We went over for drinks but it was a grand tour with many questions. He did everything himself, welding steel hull, weld aluminum super structure, beautiful cabinets, machinery and etc. During their trip they encountered 18 - 25 foot seas and with the "flopper stoppers" were able to proceed safely.
The ceilings are 7.5 feet high and it looks more like a home then a boat. Just beautiful !!!!
Saturday Jan. 15 we prepared to leave Vero and proceed to Stuart, just 43 miles down the ICW.

Jan. 8 - 10, 2011

Vero Beach Marina now has a pumpout boat but the frequency it works has not been determined. Seems that they need 4 staff members at the dock before the pumpout boat can be used. We are still waiting.
Typical day is get to the bus stop with you shopping list, go to various stores, then find a good place to eat lunch.

Jan. 7, 2011

Left early to get to Vero Beach at a reasonable time. We enjoy Vero (known as "Velcro Beach") because of the convenience with the bus and short walk to the beach and nice restaurants. Plan to stay about a week.
Robert on "Luna Phase" was at Vero so we tied up with him. Barbara was able to feed us both.

Jan. 6, 2011

Got underway early again with the threat of storms, since the ICW is not difficult and usually very calm.
Headed to Harbortown Marina, near NASA, for diesel fuel and a night stay at a marina. The cost of fuel was very resonable and the night stay was cheap. Shower, laundry and good walk was enjoyable. I did learn something. If you hang out at the laundry, reading a book and having a drink, you can meet many women doing laundry and walking dogs, if one is interested in women.

Jan. 5, 2011

We slipped the mooring lines early and headed south to anchor in Rockhouse Creek, near New Smyrna Beach.
South of St Augustine is a problem area know as Matanzas. We know it well from previous trips. This time we saw it at a very high tide and did not recognize it. Breezed through it with out notice.

Jan. 4, 2011

Left Ortega Landing at 0730 for the ICW and bucked the current the entire 21 miles. This caused us to arrive at St. Augustine City Marina about an hour later then anticipated. We picked up a mooring ball for the evening and were impressed with the new mooring field. Showers and pumpout included for $20.
Ortega was a very nice place to spend some time. Met some nice, interesting people. We were not allowed in the members only Captain's Lounge. Access to the lounge would have been nice. Presently, the bank owns the whole complex. Signs of the times.

Jan. 1 - 3, 2011

Settled down to boating life. Gathered parts for mechanicial maintenance, socialized, celebrated the New Year and relaxed.
We planned our next moved south.

December 29 - 31, 2010

Returned to Ortega Landing to install the rebuilt water pump and provision the Barbara's Joy.
We met a new dock neighbor, Mat and his 7 dogs. A male and a female and 5 babies, born in his Hummer on the way to the boat from New Jersey.
Another dock friend, Mary Beth watched the boat while we were away and helped Barbara with the provisioning. Thanks to Mary Beth !!

November 15 - 21, 2010

We will begin again to up date this blog.
Not much had happened until 11/16/10. In the middle of nowhere, the starboard engine sent a strange noise/vibration like sound up to the bridge. We anchored quickly to diagnose the problem. After shutting down the engine, we discovered that the fresh water pump's bearing was the cause of the noise. The water pump needed to be rebuilt.
The next 3 days we used the port engine to push us to the St. Johns River and Ortega Landing Marina. The bright side is that the fuel consumption was cut a third of normal.
At the Marina, I removed the water pump to bring home. We left the marina on 11/21 to spend the Holidays with our family.
